Žarko Vijatović was born in 1952 in Washington D.C., USA. He lives and works in Paris. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts, Department of Painting, in the class of Šime Perić.
After his graduation, Žarko Vijatović initially worked in the medium of painting, and then gradually included photography as a means of expression. This can be observed on the basis of his solo exhibition at the Dom JNA Salon in Zagreb in 1988 andat Espace Paul Boyé, in the French town of Sète in 1995. At the exhibition “Mediterranean Touches North” he linked photography with painting ever more subtly, and it gradually became his only means of representing the reality.
In 1992, he won the ILFORD award for black and white photography. Since 1994 he has been a member of the French community of independent artists, la Maison des Artistes.
Since 2007, he has been permanently featured at two galleries in Paris: PHOTO 4 and Galerie Lucie & Weill Seligmann.
