Gathering and processing archival data is crucial for understanding, contextualising and valuing contemporary art practices in photography and new media, as well as gaining knowledge on the topics that are controversial or in any way outside of dominant narratives. In that context, private archives are especially significant as they can be sources of knowledge for understanding particular, different perspectives. By developing a long-term programme for working with private archives using custodial models, UzF is creating a basis for articulating and contextualising the development processes, key issues and achievements of artists and workers in the cultural sector. Processing and researching private archives leads to their valorization and promotion, while protecting the material independently of the dynamic of national institutions. Since 2017, UzF has been collaborating with Petar Dabac and developing new methods for research and protection, while minding the specifics of working with private archives.
