The opening of the exhibition <strong><em>Blueprint for a Narrative<\/em><\/strong> by the <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">students from the Department of Visual Culture and Fine Arts of the Arts Academy in Split \u2013 Marija Bare, Jelena Jur\u010devi\u0107, Hana Kalebi\u0107, Matea Kri\u017eanovi\u0107, and \u0110ina Radulj \u2013<\/span>\u00a0will be held on\u00a0<strong>Friday, 16th of May at 7:00 p.m<\/strong>. Unlike classic film photography, which uses silver halides to develop the image, this technique, developed in early 1842, employs a less exacting process involving iron salts. Due to the simplicity of its production process and durability, it was most often used as a method for duplicating documents and technical drawings \u2013 blueprints \u2013 but it may provide much more than its original application, as evidenced by the works of the students from the Department of Visual Culture and Fine Arts of the Arts Academy in Split. Artists Marija Bare, Jelena Jur\u010devi\u0107, Hana Kalebi\u0107, Matea Kri\u017eanovi\u0107 and \u0110ina Radulj present thematically diverse works created under the guidance of workshop lead Glorija Lizde and the mentoring eye of assistant professor Lana Stoji\u0107evi\u0107.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the work <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dowry for Two<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Marija Bare<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> examines the traditional cultural practice of dowry using an unconventional medium for cyanotype creation \u2013 pillowcases \u2013 which were given to newlyweds by their immediate family as part of their dowry bedding. They were also accompanied by different crocheted or embroidered objects, such as the perennial doilies, which the artist imprints on the pillowcases as a mode of recontextualization of the folk custom. In her works titled <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Projection,<\/span><\/em><b> Jelena Jur\u010devi\u0107<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> places emphasis on the famous urbanist project of Split 3, built in the 1970s and 1980s. In the photographs that include minutely considered elements of urban design, the artist intervenes with straight lines, thereby connecting sketches of architectural plans with existing segments of real life. <\/span><b>Hana Kalebi\u0107<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> draws inspiration for her series of cyanotypes <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I AM HERE \u2013 YOU ARE HERE<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from her frequent trips between Vela Luka on the island of Kor\u010dula and Split, layering an exciting fictional narrative onto the monotonous quotidian journey. On an imaginary Jadrolinija ferryboat, passengers are placed in a life-threatening situation unknown to us, while their path to safety is made possible by means of evacuation maps and other emergency rescue instructions. In her presentation of the Croatian National Theatre in Split,<\/span><b> Matea Kri\u017eanovi\u0107<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> focuses on the inscriptions and plaques on the doors of theatre employees. In addition to the fact that the Prussian blue reproduces almost the exact shade of blue of the plaques, it also echoes the symbolism of labour and worker identity. <\/span><b>\u0110ina Radulj<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> pays homage to her own family story about her grandfather Marin, who decided to dig a canal by himself, to save his house from constant flooding. Owing to the laborious physical effort that required almost superhuman strength of mind and body, he was nicknamed the &#8220;Titan of the island of Mljet&#8221;, and in the artist\u2019s eyes acquires the properties of the mythical Atlas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Through their own narrative blueprints, the artists offer an expanded understanding of different themes and motifs exploring traditional customs in a contemporary context, imaginary situations, family heritage, and unique aspects of interior and exterior spaces. She has exhibited her works in several group exhibitions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Jelena Jur\u010devi\u0107 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Split, 1994) is a graduate student of Visual Culture and Fine Arts at the Arts Academy in Split. She has exhibited in several solo and group exhibitions. Her works explore the relationship between tradition and contemporary art, as well as the heritage of modernist architecture in Split and its surroundings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Hana Kalebi\u0107 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Zagreb, 2000) graduated from the Arts Academy in Split in 2023 with an undergraduate degree in Visual Culture and Fine Arts, and is currently completing her second year of graduate studies at the same department. She has exhibited in several group exhibitions. Through her work, she explores the theme of deindustrialisation in the local context using semiotics and technical drawing through a science-fiction lens.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Matea Kri\u017eanovi\u0107 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Sinj, 2000) graduated from the Arts Academy in Split in 2023 with a BA in Visual Culture and Fine Arts, and is currently completing her MA at the same department. She has exhibited in several group exhibitions in Split, including the UMAS festival, the <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blueprint for a Narrative<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> exhibition at the KVART Gallery, and the <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">P-MISCELLANEOUS<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> exhibition at Prostor. Her work delves into themes of personal, familial, and intimate nature, most often through the medium of painting and hand embroidery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>\u0110ina Radulj <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Dubrovnik, 2001) graduated in 2023 with a Bachelor\u2019s degree in Visual Culture and Fine Arts from the Arts Academy in Split, and is currently completing her graduate sophomore year at the same department. She has participated in several group exhibitions: <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">P-MISCELLANEOUS<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Prostor, Split; <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blueprint for a Narrative<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Kvart Gallery, Split; <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Frano Gotovac\u2019 Great Wall of China in Animated GIFs<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Prostor, Split.
