The Croatian Photographic Union and the web portal Contemporary Croatian Photography (Office forPhotography) are announcing the opening of the exhibition This Is (Not) My World<\/em>, on Saturday 5 September 2015 at 8 p.m., in the Klovi\u0107evi Dvori Gallery, Zagreb.<\/p>\n

Having organized the exhibition Photographer in a Public Space<\/em> at Greta Gallery in 2014, under the production of the web portal Contemporary Croatian Photography, the Office for Photography has decided to continue with its production of exhibitions.
\nIn cooperation with the Croatian Photographic Union, we planned this year’s layout as a part of their annual photography exhibition, held for 21 consecutive years.<\/p>\n

The exhibiting artists are: Boris Cvjetanovi\u0107, Petar Dabac, Sandro \u0110uki\u0107, Marko Ercegovi\u0107, \u0110or\u0111e Jandri\u0107, Josip Klarica, Hana Mileti\u0107, Jasenko Rasol, Frane Rogi\u0107, Davor Sanvincenti, \u017darko Vijatovi\u0107, Ivona Vla\u0161i\u0107, Mirjana Vodopija.<\/p>\n

Photography in itself is always ambiguous. It provides us with an illusion that we have permanently captured something. But the nature of the photographic image is always illusionary and fleeting.
\nA photograph always remains dangerously vulnerable to the light from which it was created and which ultimately threatens to destroy it. Our perception of itis always temporary, although, what has been captured on a photograph remains permanently selected.<\/p>\n

In his work This Is Not My World<\/em> (1976), \u017deljko Jerman chose the photochemical process of the photographic medium. Why did he choose to represent the image which clearly fades?
\nThis work can be perceived as a violent dispossession \u2013 because Jermandeprived his photograph from its essence (the ability to write in light and capture images). Instead, he etched the words This is not my world<\/em> on paper, with the assistance of chemicals. We are the ones who have inherited his ‘forfeited world’.<\/p>\n

The authors who were invited to participate in the exhibition were enabled to provide their own answers to the question to what extent and in what way this is or is not their world. The received outcome are personal stories which might at first seem restrained, as if the artists were commenting the world from the background, using the medium of photography as a kind of a mediator \u2013 a mediator between the world which is and isn’t theirs\/ours, and which they can represent and criticize via aesthetics.
\nA unified perception of the world does not exist. No unified image arises from their multitude, only a signpost which points us to the direction of possible perceptions. The frames contain the potential material to be read and used to interpret that part of the world which is going to be ‘appropriated’ by the observer. The discourse which arises through interpersonal interactions (the artist \u2013 the medium \u2013 the subject \u2013 the observer) is never neutral. Are we reliable or unreliable witnesses?<\/p>\n

Several artists’ talks and guided tours will be held in the duration of the exhibition.<\/p>\n
