At the beginning of November, the Spot Gallery will welcome Calin Kruse<\/strong>, editor and publisher of dienacht Publishing<\/strong>, an independent publishing house based in Leipzig, Germany. The programme brings together an exhibition of dienacht Publishing’s publications, an artist talk, and individual portfolio review sessions<\/strong> for photographers developing their own artistic projects. <\/span>The exhibition will feature a selection of publications showcasing the diverse possibilities of photographic publishing \u2013 from photozines and small-scale artists’ projects to handmade, experimental, and collectible editions. At the heart of the programme is the photobook as a distinct artistic medium in which photographs, sequencing, text, graphic design, paper, binding, and format work together to create meaning. The programme also raises broader questions about the place of the photobook today: why do artists continue to choose the printed object in an increasingly digital culture? How does the materiality of a book shape the way photographs are read and interpreted? And what financial, logistical, and creative challenges do small independent publishers face? Exhibition will remain open until 20th November 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the artist talk, Calin Kruse will discuss the editing and design of photobooks, the handmade production of small editions, collaborations with artists, and his work with dienacht Publishing and the Leipzig Photobook Festival. The talk will be followed by the opening of an exhibition featuring publications by dienacht Publishing.<\/span><\/p>\n

The portfolio review is intended for photographers who would like to discuss the selection and sequencing of their work, as well as the possibilities of developing their projects into photobooks. Six individual review sessions are planned, each lasting up to 30 minutes, with 15-minute breaks between sessions. Selected participants will receive their exact appointment times by email. Participants are encouraged to bring physical prints of their photographs. Print quality is not essential \u2013 simple prints from a local copy shop are perfectly acceptable. <\/span>Participation is limited to six photographers. To apply, please complete the<\/span>\u00a0application form<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n
