{"id":7701,"date":"2019-06-19T12:38:06","date_gmt":"2019-06-19T12:38:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/croatian-photography.com\/?p=7701"},"modified":"2019-09-01T16:37:32","modified_gmt":"2019-09-01T16:37:32","slug":"stephanie-kiwitt-in-spot-gallery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/croatian-photography.com\/en\/stephanie-kiwitt-in-spot-gallery\/","title":{"rendered":"Stephanie Kiwitt in Spot Gallery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Spot Gallery and Office for Photography\u00a0<\/strong>announce the opening of an exhibition <strong><em>M<\/em><em>\u00e1j<\/em><em>\/My\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>by German artist<strong> Stephanie Kiwitt<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>exhibition opening\u00a0<\/strong>will be held on Wednesday,\u00a0<strong>3\u00a0July at 7 pm<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/croatian-photography.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Kiwitt-1.jpeg\" width=\"640\" height=\"462\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/croatian-photography.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Kiwitt-2.jpeg\" width=\"640\" height=\"462\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/croatian-photography.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Kiwitt-3.jpeg\" width=\"640\" height=\"462\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">German artist Stephanie Kiwitt\u2019s photo series <em>M\u00e1j\/My <\/em>is a kind of play on words: \u201cM\u00e1j\u201d means the month of May in Czech, while \u201cMy\u201d has a double connotation, one in English and one in Czech signifying \u201cwe\u201d. The notion of this B&amp;W series &#8211; based on a long term observation of <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">traces that indicate the transitional processes<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\"> in the public space in the Prague, is embedded in between the month that we associate not only with spring, but workers\u2019 rights and the pronoun that signifies possession.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">The transitional processes incited more than a little trepidation in people from Eastern European countries; however, even earlier periods had been marked by that feeling, but according to Renata Salecl, these \u201canxieties that very much pertain to contemporary society are linked to the new feelings of insecurity on which contemporary capitalism capitalizes itself\u201d. Stephanie Kiwitt\u2019s research led her into \u201cprecarious terrain\u201d whose instability originates from the idiosyncrasies of the commercial market and material production that circumscribe the quality of life. In an exhibition layout, her B&amp;W photographs shape a narrative where each individual subject acts from a place of personal isolation, leaving the social aspect invisible.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Stephanie Kiwitt<\/strong> was born in 1972 in Bonn and is based in Brussels. She studied photography at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig and ITF in Opava, Czech Republic.
