Due to great public interest, the exhibition Cut and Paste – Collages by Inka Švertasek and Nada Vrkljan-Križić has been extended and can be viewed until June 4. To mark the closing of the exhibition, the Office for Photography is hosting the launch of the fifth issue of FOTOTXT, titled “From Silence”. This edition highlights artists whose works have until now been shown only rarely, with some never before exhibited or entirely unknown to the public.

The striking collages and photomontages of Nada Vrkljan-Križić and Inka Švertasek—two artists who likely never met—were created between the 1960s and 1970s, representing an important contribution to positioning the female gaze within the context of visual arts and photographic experimentation in Croatia. In this issue, art historian and theorist Leonida Kovač writes about the collages of Nada Vrkljan-Križić, while art critic Darko Šimičić focuses on the works of Inka Švertasek.

Also featured is an interview with Split-based photographer Rino Efendić, on the occasion of his exhibition Polaroid Land at Spot Gallery in March. His practice of more than thirty years of working with Polaroid film reveals a unique and evocative poetics. Despite their significance, many generations of Efendić’s Polaroids have rarely been exhibited and were almost never accessible to wider audiences. In the interview conducted by art historian Sandra Križić Roban, we discover details about his artistic path as well as the social context that shaped his development.

The fifth issue of FOTOTXT has been published by the Office for Photography as a bilingual edition (Croatian-English), spanning around sixty pages and enriched with numerous visuals. It was produced within Not Yet Written Stories – Women Artists’ Archives Online, an international research project co-financed by Creative Europe.

The magazine will be presented on June 5 at Spot Gallery by curator and art historian Sandra Križić Roban, art critic Darko Šimičić, artist and writer Željko Kipke, and curator and art historian Alma Trauber.
